Inconsistency was Simon Freeman's watchword for this meeting. Starting as he meant to go on, with a win in Round 1, the only way was down, which he proceeded to take. A non-start in round 2 and a lowly 7th place in round 3, he did manage to return to winning ways in round 4.
Mark Byrne took full advantage of Freeman's laspes, with two wins and two second places. Damien Tutton and Tony Scott chased Freeman and Byrne all the way, finishing most rounds with the same lap count as the winners.
Freeman maintained his upswing in form, with a win in the final, one lap ahead of Byrne. Tony Scott took the final podium place.
Despite his variable form in the heats, Freeman's win in the final puts him on equal points with Byrne, at the top of the rankings. Scott is close behind in third place.
Buggies
Tony Bolwell totally dominated the Buggy series. Wins in the first three rounds, he lost out to James Baxter in round 4 by a mere 2 seconds. Jim Eddins has started showing more form of late, with two second places in rounds 1 and 2, with car failure letting him down in the last two rounds. Baxter and Rob Stevens-White were the most consistent of the remaining drivers, with several 2nd and 3rd place finishes between them.
These 4 drivers also dominated the final, Bolwell taking 1st place again, and Eddins resolving his car failures to take runner up spot. Baxter pipped Stevens-White by 10 seconds to take 3rd.

Clanfield RC Club Summer Series 2007 - Round 1 Monday 28th May
Review by Peter Maisey.
What do you get after the average monthly rainfall descends on Hampshire
in a single day? A cancelled race meeting? Not if the track is Clanfield
and the rain has stopped for a couple of hours. Two inches of rain fell
on Bank Holiday Sunday, but the first of six rounds of the Summer Series
still went ahead the next day. A quick sweep of a few puddles and the
track was ready.
Track work earlier in the week had added the final touches for the
summer. The final 'S' bend into the start/finish straight now included a
table top and the car park had doubled in size.
After only 1 round, the series standings reflect success or failure at
this meeting. The four top positions are taken by heat and final
winners, with Bolwell leading the way, pursued by Baxter, Eddins and
Stevens-White.

Our Butser Hill Demo hits new heights
Well done to the crew that worked so hard to make our RC Off Road Racing Demo at the Country park Country Fair. It proved a fantastic attraction.
With reasonable weather (at last) the cars and drivers put on a great display on the dry grass circuit, This year the straight was extended and this allowed even more extreme jumps, it was great hearing the “OOHS” from the crowds as the cars headed for the skies. Pictures below and even more pictures here.

Truggies
Heat 1 of the truggies was the "Jes Blaber" show, with 3 wins from 3 starts. Yes, there were 4 rounds, but he didn't make the 4th, leaving Cameron Taylor, runner up in the preceding 3 rounds, to take the honours.
Heat 2 was a more competitive affair, with several drives chasing hard for the win. Grant Fribbens laid down a challenge from the start, completing 8 laps to the four pursuing drivers' 7 laps. Rounds 2 and 3 were Simon Freeman's, albeit closely followed by Mark Byrne. Fribbens returned to winning ways in round 4, but again with Freeman and Byrne hot on his (w)heels.
The truggy final combined heats 1 and 2, with 14 drivers hoping for a win. For several a, slightly lesser goal of finishing the 20 minute race turned out to be a better target, with only 8 of the 14 making it to the finishing line.
Damien Tutton did not have the best of series in the heats, but managed to get it all together in the final to take 3rd place, a lap clear of the chasing pack. The top two places were in doubt until the last lap of the race. Fribbens and Freeman had been chasing the lead throughout the entire event, a small error by one allowing the other catch up or pull ahead. On lap 26, Fribbens took the lead for the first time and held on for the remaining two laps to win by a mere 5 seconds.
In spite of his win, Fribbens does not currently figure in the top positions, having missed the 1st round of the series. Freeman leads from Byrne by 4 points.
Buggies
The 1st buggy heat was controlled thoughout by Damien Tigwell, with 4 wins from 4 starts. No other driver was as consistent, with 4 different runners up. However, the chasing pack was never far behind, with over half the runners finishing on the same lap as Tigwell in 3 of the 4 rounds.
Reece Sawyer, Jon Wolfe and Nick Gilbert shared the leading positions in the 2nd heat. As this series went on, competitors were either getting used to the track, or the drying conditions enabled higher average speeds. The 4th round saw both Sawyer and Gilbert break the 8 lap barrier.
Drivers in the 3rd heat were on fire from the start, with Mark Johnson managing 8 laps in round 1. As the rounds progressed, more and more drivers reached 8 laps. Graham Alsop helped himself to 3 of the 4 rounds, with Bob Ryan the most successful of the chasing drivers with two 2nd places. The surprise of the heat was the lowly position of Jon Hazlewood, with a highest placing of 8th in the 4th round.
The buggy 'C' final was won by Dan Ghidaldan on 27 laps, followed by Robert Clark and Jim Eddins a lap adrift. These 3, along with 4th placed Mark Clark, were elevated to the 'B' final.
Having not performed as well as expected in the heats, Hazlewood, along with the Winter Series buggy winner Grant Fribbens, joined the other 'B' finalists. Hazlewood was clearly getting on top of conditions as he won the 20 minute race by two clear laps. Ghidaldan, winner of the 'C' final, capitalised on his promotion to the 'B final with a 3rd place, to be promoted once more, to the 'A' final. He was joined by 2nd placed Neal Twitchen and 4th placed Fribbens.
Proving that his improvement in winning the 'B' final was not a fluke, Hazlewood then took 1st place in the 'A' final, half a lap ahead of 2nd placed Alsop. Two laps further back was Jess Saunders, with Rob Rasey a further place adrift in 4th place.
Clanfield members Tony Bolwell and Jim Eddins currently lead the series standings, with Bolwell some way ahead of the others. However, it is still early days, and positions will change as the series goes on.

Clanfield RC Club Summer Series 2007 - Round 2 Sunday 17th June
Review by Peter Maisey.
Seconds out! Round 2! Of the Clanfield Summer Series that is. For those of us who arrived a little late, the site looked more like a tented city than a race track. The threat of rain (that didn't actually arrive) obviously persuaded competitors to err on the side of caution.
Yet more changes greeted those who hadn't been to the track since round 1 of the series. No extension to the track this time, but a smoother surface. During the preceding week club members had shifted and rolled several tons of topsoil to the rougher parts of the track.
Overnight rain had dampened the track but by the end of the first series of heats, the surface had dried out
